GABF 10/13/12

Today is the best day of the GABF. Awards Day. More than 250 awards will be given. Gold, silver and bronze in each of 84 categories as well as brewers and brewery individual awards. Time to get some recognition for all that hard work.

I will get the notices up as soon as possible, especially for the breweries where you might see me from time to time. PNW brewers Sound, Chuckanut and Alaskan are past winners who look to repeat in specialty categories. The several hotly contested IPA categories are always a toss-up with nearly 200 entries. I look for winners in the Porter, Brown, and Stout categories as “must try before I leave” selections.

This year the awards ceremony was held prior to the opening of the AHA Members Only session in the Wells Fargo Room. In previous years the awards were give during the AHA session, which was rather chaotic for everyone. Moving it to the auditorium, and holding it prior to the opening allowed more festival area floor space to add 110 more brewers, gave attendees the list of winners so they could try them at the beginning of the session, and allowed brewers to stay at their stations during the session to talk to folks about the beers.,

You can view a complete list of winners.at the handy Great American Beer Festival web site

Here are some images from the final session. A good time was had by all.

See you next year October 10-12, 2013.
