Rock Bottom Bellevue Taps a Tartan

I headed over to the Rock Bottom Restaurant in Bellevue on Wednesday for the tapping of their Winter Tartan. I was a bit disappointed, actually. I guess I was expecting something more along the lines of their Naughty Scot. This is not that.

What it is, is a mid-range brownish, reddish, thing with vanilla – lots of vanilla. In fact, there was not much in the way of earthy, peaty, taste one would normally expect in something called a Scottish Ale. Not a bad beer. Just not what I came in there expecting.

To further my disappointment, missing from the everyday line-up were the Lumberjack Red, Nisqually Nut Brown and other Bellevue Rock Bottom staples still advertised on wall signs. This is probably due to the departure of long-time head brewmaster Brian Young last summer and the hiring of new brewmaster Sara Luchi.
