World of Beer had a tough go in the Seattle market. Their Capitol Hill location closed a year ago and became the independently owned 500 East.
On Saturday (Jan. 2) the Renton site at The Landing underwent a similar change. Trenchers Kitchen and Tap will take over the space starting Wednesday with a formal opening on January 15.
Trenchers is owned by the same folks who were part of WoB. They say this change will allow them to have a more Washington-centric feel. Look for an improved food menu with local sourcing of ingredients, local wines, local coffees, etc.
Jaime Goldstein manages the new Trenchers (also 500 East – and is due with baby #1 in February) for owners Matt Lull and Nick Kolman. Jason Braun manages the kitchen.
So what will be different at this great Renton watering hole? Emphasis on local. Fewer bottled beers (200 as opposed to 500) More local beers. Food prepared exclusively on premises. Autonomy to create and experiment.
Gone is the WoB franchise dictated sameness. Look for some of the same things regulars have liked; trivia nights, live music on Friday nights. Many of the same staffers stayed on with the changeover, but Trenchers is hiring new people as well.
They have 50 tap handles with 40+ beers on draft, several wine and cider choices and hard liquor.
Welcome, Trenchers to Renton and The Landing.
