Nano Nanew: Tiny Seattle Breweries

The neighborhood brewery is in abundance in Seattle and the King County region. Recently HTBN visited four of them. The beers are delightful and innovative.

LOWERCASE BREWING

Not too far from mid-sized craft breweries like Georgetown, Two Beers, Schooner EXACT and other SODO breweries is Lowercase Brewing, a three-barrel nano in the industrial/residential part of South Park. You won’t be seeing Cartman or his pals here but you will find a dog-friendly breweries, with good beer and a park-like outdoor tasting rooms.

On tap were some of the staples:

  • mEXICAN LAGER – a Dos XX inspired Vienna Lager
  • pALE – mildly hopped session beer
  • bROWN – very dry brown
  • sTOUT – American stout with vanilla

They also make an iPA and an eSB.

BURDICK BREWING

In the same building you will find Burdick Brewing, which actually opened before LOWERCASE. Burdick makes a range of beers and has a waffle breakfast on the first Saturday of the month in collaboration with a local coffee roaster Mae James. On this day, Burdick featured their Pale Ale and three IPAs made with different hops.

TIN DOG BREWING

A few blocks to the west is Tin Dog Brewing – who makes a very nice saison and dubbel. Eric and Lisa are specializing in Belgian styed beers and doing a fine job so far. The have a great neighborhood following and really show the passion for making great local craft beer.

STANDARD BREWING

Standard Brewing is doing quite well despite its very small production capacity. They have twelve taps of some unique beers that you will be hard pressed to find outside of the Central District. They do a brisk business in growler sales, which is good, considering the taproom is about the size of a walk-in closet and the outdoor patio seats maybe 10-12 people.

I had the dandelion ale. It was well-balanced — quite enjoyable.
